necessary premature celebration

Since we are leaving the country soon, and I don't forsee the air force allowing me to ship a frozen layer of cake, I went ahead and started thawing out our wedding cake today. I realize it's a "one year anniversary" tradition, but in our case, 5 months and some change is going to have to do.

It held up better than i'd expected - I vacuum packed it, so it's got some weird dents and creases, but I figured that would be the best way to keep it from becoming freezer burned. I was really happy with how well the flowers held up!

They still look pretty fabulous!!!

I'm really hoping it's still somewhat edible - but if it tastes half as good as it did on our big day, I'll be happy!
